ACE - Chief Culture Officer

American Conservation Experience (ACE) is a dynamic non-profit organization dedicated to providing rewarding environmental service opportunities that harness the idealism and energy of an emerging labor force to help restore America's public lands. ACE's Emerging Professionals In Conservation (EPIC) program has a national reputation for providing exceptional training and support to enable individuals to safely and economically implement technically complex and physically demanding conservation projects for the National Park Service (NPS), the US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, US Fish and Wildlife and numerous state and local land management partners.

Title: Chief Culture Officer

Location: ACE Office or Remote Options Available (ACE offices)

ACE Department/Division: Office of the President, Executive Management Team

Reports to: President/CEO

Schedule/Hours: Flexible Schedule (Monday - Friday); additional hours as needed

Compensation: Competitive package with benefits that include paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, 401K, and health, dental, vision and other supplemental insurance.

Status: Full Time Salaried, Exempt

Position Summary:

Reporting to the CEO and as a member of the Executive Management team, the CCO will provide servant leadership, vision, insight, and creativity across the organization, and will have the primary responsibility of working with ACE leadership and teams to ensure systems, tools and processes are in place and utilized to develop and sustain a best-in-class workplace culture. The CCO will help develop, uphold and role model ACE core values, leadership behaviors and philosophies.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Work as a part of the management team to implement organizational goals and support the alignment of departments and teams.
  • Serve as Champion to ensure that ACE focuses on and continues to strive to be the Workplace/Employer of Choice
  • Act as a liaison between staff, and teams as needed
  • Set the tone for and provide tools and resources for high quality internal communication
  • Establish a connection for employees, execs, and the organization as whole.
  • Develop assessments and tools to understand the needs and desires of staff
  • Drive talent acquisition, retention and satisfaction strategies
  • Plan and carry out events for staff to ensure connection in a dispersed work environment.
  • Develop an internal professional and leadership development curriculum.
  • Support and guide existing initiatives including Healthy Workplace and JEDI/DEI.
  • Lead internal working groups and task forces.

Awareness and Positioning of ACE:

  • Represent ACE's philosophy and values to a wide range of audiences including members, programmatic staff, management and public.
  • Fosters a culture and environment that positions ACE for success and ensures that ACE is the program of choice for partners.
  • Demonstrates and promotes ACE Operating Values and Leadership Behaviors.
  • May represent ACE at appropriate conferences and trainings.
  • Adhere to ACE policies and procedures.
  • Other related duties as assigned; Responsibilities and tasks outlined are not exhaustive and may change as determined by ACE.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years of experience in similar culture and people position with strong background in diversity and inclusion programs.
  • Non-profit experience preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across the organization.
  • Ability to easily and deeply connect with all levels of employees.
  • Strong desire to give back and better people's lives.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; Excellent presentation skills.
  • Strong business acumen and executive presence.
  • Demonstrated intercultural experience and strong presence within a group setting.
  • Organized, consistent, and persistent with strong follow-up capabilities.
  • Superb writing skills, including grammar, spelling, and the ability to summarize efficiently.
  • Highly motivated, positive attitude, and ability to work in a structured, performance-driven environment.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to articulate work to others on the team.
  • Proven ability to lead and direct teams consisting of both direct and non-direct reports.
  • Ability to work independently as well as assisting others when needed.
  • Strong time management, organizational, and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to meet and exceed daily and weekly individual performance goals.
  • Detail-oriented and consistently striving for accuracy.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, and with utilizing the Internet as a research tool.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Valid driver's license and an insurable driving record
  • Proficient in English
  • Ability to pass a federal criminal background check
  • Willing to abide by ACE Policy and Federal Drug Free workplace policies and laws.
  • ACE reserves the right to drug test at any time.

Physical Demands, Work Environment and Working Conditions:

Physical Demands: Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, carrying, using hands to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, talks and hears. Manual dexterity required for use of computer keyboard/mouse and other routine office equipment. May occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, climb stairs, and/or crouch.

Vision Requirements: Requires close, distance, peripheral and depth perception vision as well as the ability to focus.

Weight Lifted or Force Exerted: Frequently lifts up to 10 pounds., occasionally lifts up to 25 pounds.

Environmental: Moderate noise such as in a business office with equipment and light traffic.

Travel: This position requires domestic travel
