American Conservation Experience (ACE) is a dynamic non-profit organization dedicated to providing rewarding environmental service opportunities that harness the idealism and energy of an emerging labor force to help restore America's public lands.  ACE's Emerging Professionals In Conservation (EPIC) program has a national reputation for providing exceptional training and support to enable individuals to safely and economically implement technically complex and physically demanding conservation projects for the National Park Service, the US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, US Fish and Wildlife and numerous state and local land management partners.

 

Title: ACE EPIC Recruitment Specialist, NPS Western Division

Location: Salt Lake City, UT.  Options may include other ACE offices or telework status given COVID-19 or other potential considerations

Department/Division: EPIC, National Park Service (NPS)

Status: Regular, Full-Time, Salaried (Exempt)

Schedule/Hours:  Flexible schedule (Monday-Friday); some evening and weekend hours may be occasionally required

Compensation: Full-Time, 40 hours/week within a flexible schedule. Competitive pay with a benefits package that includes health, dental, vision and supplemental insurance, paid vacation, sick leave, designated holidays and 401k retirement for qualified employees

Reports to: EPIC NPS Western Regions Associate Director

Start Date: Ideally early February 2021

 

Position Summary:

ACE is seeking candidates for a Recruitment Specialist for the Emerging Professionals in Conservation (EPIC), National Park Service (NPS) Western Division who is passionate about youth engagement, resource management, and desires to work at the national level through ACE's 21st Century Service Corps partnership with Federal land management agencies.  Our cooperative partnership responsibility is to bridge EPIC pathways to public service careers, both federal and nongovernmental.

The Western Region Recruitment Specialist for the EPIC NPS Division will work under the direction and support of division leadership to directly assist with recruitment and outreach efforts for ACE EPIC NPS Division. In support of facilitating meaningful conservation professional development opportunities for youth and young adults on public lands, the Recruitment Specialist will be responsible for recruitment and outreach efforts for ACE EPIC programs with NPS partners in the Western Region of the United States.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate and support the candidate screening and selection process
  • Communicate and collaborate with ACE's nationwide recruitment team for outreach efforts
  • Support outreach efforts for EPIC National Park Service (NPS) specific recruitment
  • Assure timely and accurate onboarding of new hires, including data entry of new hire's employment information
  • Participate in ACE staff trainings and events as well as NPS agency trainings and events
  • Contribute to the collection and assembling of project accomplishments and statistics for partnership reporting needs
  • Pending safe travel conditions, conduct park visits, attend offsite events, and professional development conferences or trainings
  • Adhere to ACE safety policies and procedures

 Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • Ability to effectively work with a diverse range of people
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Must have a strong comfort level speaking on the phone
  • Familiarity with basic office practices, file management and record maintenance
  • Must maintain a positive, constructive, and flexible work environment conducive to team dynamics
  • A deep and continuing interest in the welfare and professional development of ACE participants
  • Commitment to ACE's mission of public service through youth development & volunteerism
  • Highly organized with the ability to maintain organization of hundreds of applicants for projects nationwide, utilizing proprietary database tools
  • Computer skills required including intermediate knowledge of Google Suites, MS Office, iOS, and professional email etiquette as well as experience or willingness to learn applicant tracking software, personnel databases, and webinar platforms such as Zoom or equivalent
  • Ability to receive and provide constructive feedback
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Ability to understand and follow ACE systems and processes
  • Proven ability to work independently and be a positive, contributing member of a group
  • Must be flexible and eager to engage the highly mobile and largely remote teams that make up ACE
  • Effective time management skills, and the ability/desire to concurrently perform multiple deadline-driven tasks
  • Willingness to travel to project sites around the country and ability to successfully work remotely

 Other Requirements:

  • Legal ability to work in the US
  • Valid driver's license and an insurable driving record
  • Proficient in English
  • Ability to pass a federal criminal background check
  • Willing to abide by ACE Policy and Federal Drug Free workplace policies and laws. ACE reserves the right to drug test at any time

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

  • Mentorship / engagement with youth and young professionals.
  • Experience working with marginalized individuals or communities that outdoor education organizations have failed to previously engage.
  • Previous experience in formal team setting (volunteer, academic, professional).
  • Experience with the National Park Service and/or land management, or passionate about implementing its mission to balance public resource enjoyment, education, and inspiration with resource preservation.
  • An understanding of youth professional development experiences such as ACE's or early career exposure to the resource management activity.
  • A BA/BS degree (or higher) in a related field of study, and/or a combination of relevant field experience which could include natural or human resources, management, or customer service.

 

Physical Demands, Work Environment and Working Conditions 

Physical Demands: Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, carrying, using hands to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, talks and hears. Manual dexterity required for use of computer keyboard/mouse and other routine office equipment. May occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, climb stairs, and/or crouch

Vision Requirements: Requires close, distance, peripheral and depth perception vision as well as the ability to focus

Weight Lifted or Force Exerted: Frequently lifts up to 10 lbs., occasionally lifts up to 25 pounds

Environmental: Moderate noise such as in a business office with equipment and light traffic

Travel: This position requires local, domestic travel
