ACE CA Regional Director

ACE is a dynamic organization with a national reputation for providing exceptional training and support to enable crews to safely and economically implement technically complex and physically demanding restoration projects for the US Forest Service, BLM, National Park Service, USFWS and numerous state and local land management partners.

The ACE California program is organized into three distinct regions to make certain that the unique needs particular to each area are met in South Lake Tahoe (North), Santa Cruz (Central) and Dulzura (South).  Each region's management team provides the energy, knowledge and skills needed to support and manage the goals of the partner's project which is driven through personal motivation and collaboration that fosters a very positive environment and foundation for our Corps members to learn and grow within each region. 

NATURE OF WORK
Under general supervision of the ACE National Corps Director, the Regional Directors of ACE California are responsible for soliciting, planning and coordinating conservation and environmental restoration projects, recruitment of staff and Corps members, development and management of program budgets, and staff management.

 

DUTIES
        Solicits, plans, schedules, develops, coordinates and tracks conservation/environmental restoration projects; maintains professional communications and relations with agency project sponsors.

        negotiates contracts for work projects and assures compliance;

        supervises, assists, trains, evaluates, and disciplines staff;

        recruits program staff and Corps members;

        monitors program budget to keep spending and hiring within parameters;

        oversees the management and maintenance of ACE residential properties;

        oversees purchase and maintenance of  tools, transportation, food, and lodging required to perform field operations within contract parameters;

        oversees management of tools, vehicle and equipment inventories;

        oversees preparation and maintains records and reports;

        develops and implements policies and procedures for subordinate staff;

        develops and implements safety and field skills programs to include training, monitoring and evaluation.

        oversees timely invoicing of projects

        oversees preparation of payroll

        oversees OSHA compliance, including appropriate record keeping

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable Knowledge of:

        methods, materials, tools, and techniques used in conservation/environmental restoration operations;

        laws, regulations, rules, and policies governing field operations and program management;

        principles and techniques of effective supervision and management;

        safety procedures applied to field operations.

        Non-profit governmental practices, including purchasing

 Working Knowledge of:

        principles of young adult development;

        team-building and motivational techniques.

        supervision and management techniques.

 Skill in:

        the use and maintenance of hand and power tools;

        the use of standard office equipment.

 Ability to:

        work varying shifts, outdoors, in a variety of weather conditions;

        safely lift 60 lbs., hike over rough terrain, and camp overnight under field conditions;

        plan, supervise, schedule, oversee, and evaluate multiple, concurrent field operations;

        coordinate the activities of culturally and economically diverse employees to ensure quality and efficiency;

        prepare and maintain records and reports;

        analyze and resolve complex customer service and safety issues;

        establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public;

        follow written and verbal instructions;

        effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
